6 ways to make money blogging: How to become a successful content creator
Blogs can generate income for you. This post focuses on six ways you can do this. If you have a lot to do and the time to create content full-time, these options are great. These topics are covered by many blogs on a part-time and/or more intensive basis.
1. Choose a topic of interest to you and write about it.
This is the best thing you can do with your blog. If you aren't interested in it, why would anyone want to read it? Choose a topic you are passionate about, and that gets you excited throughout the blogging process. Technology is my passion, so tech-related posts get shared more often than others. Find something that excites you and take it from there!
It is important to ensure that there is enough content available for this topic if you are not already blogging on the subject. If readers search online for your topic, they will find many results instead of just one or two.
2. Select your platform.
Next, choose your blogging platform. This is possible with any computer. You don't need to pay anything except for hosting and domain name. WordPress is the most widely used CMS, so it makes sense to choose this option. Google loves numbers, and millions of websites use WordPress.
Tumblr is just one of many options, but there are others depending on the design you prefer: Blogger, Weebly, and Tumblr. You should find something that is affordable and will meet all your content creation/sharing needs.
A mailing list is essential for all these strategies to work. MailChimp allows you to have up to 2000 subscribers for free, which should provide enough time. You can invite people to subscribe so they have instant access to all your blog posts, information about products/services, and more.
3. Create an attractive blog design.
Next is to create an appealing blog design that will attract your audience. You can get this done by using a variety of websites, such as Fiverr and iStockPhoto, for photos or ThemeForest for WordPress themes. You can pick whatever you like. Spending money is not necessary. All it takes to be successful on any platform is your time. Keep your focus on the essential tools that are necessary to accomplish what you're trying to do. You should not add too many bells and whimsy until later when your readership expands. Many people won't read your posts if there is too much going on, and that would be a huge defeat.
4. Write engaging content.
Write engaging content that people will read. You should stick to lists, infographics, and images. They tend to be shared much more frequently than text posts. It'll be much easier to find your niche once you know exactly what they're looking for.
If there's not much competition in your area, you can make sure that every blog post contains at least one photo (and link back through iStockPhoto). This will make it appear professional and different from other blogs that use only plain text or, worse, no images at any. Videos can be added to some posts, if necessary. You can also include any other information that's relevant but not distracting from the main topic.
5. You can increase traffic in many ways.
This is an important step, but it can be expensive. To make sure that people find your blog when they search the Internet for topics related to it, you need to create ways to do so. Exposure is key to all blogging strategies.
6. Companies sponsor posts.
Once your audience is established, it's time for you to reach out to companies that share the same interests as your blog and ask them for sponsored posts. It is easy as they will usually contact you to inquire about advertising with a post on their website.
This is how it works: these businesses want their brand to be known through social media. When people see your blog (with 2000+ readers), then they are more likely to relate, which leads to greater interest in whatever product/service you may offer. Every sponsored post should include at least one image. Otherwise, none of the information I have here will apply.
