Can Online Survey Sites Really Earn You Money?

You've heard about people making thousands of dollars per month from home doing things like selling unwanted items on eBay or Amazon. But what if there was another way to do it without having to spend hundreds of hours cleaning stuff out and shipping it off? And what if you could do it while sitting on the couch watching TV?

Surveys are a great way to make extra money because you don't even necessarily need to sell anything. Simply fill out surveys, answer questions, and then wait for companies to send you checks based on the information you provide. Some companies offer rewards programs where you can redeem points for gift cards, merchandise, or airline tickets. Other sites will pay directly via PayPal or check.

If you're looking to make some quick cash, you can start taking surveys today. As long as you meet certain qualifications, you'll be able to join a panel of survey takers and begin earning money. Many legitimate survey panels pay upwards of $10 per hour. To find one, simply search "survey panel jobs" online.

How exactly do websites that pay for surveys operate?

Surveys are one way people make extra cash on the internet. You can take surveys for fun, or you can sign up with sites where you can earn points for doing things like watching videos, playing games, shopping online, finding deals, and more. Surveys range from short questions designed to give you feedback on products you already own to elaborate questionnaires that pay out based on how accurate you are. Some surveys pay instantly while others add points to your account over time. Points can be redeemed either for cash or prizes ranging from gift cards to electronics to car accessories and more.

The top paid online surveys:

The top methods for earning money by taking surveys are listed below.

1. Swagbucks

Swagbucks is one of my favorite sites to earn free money online. I use it almost daily because I love earning rewards for taking simple surveys. In fact, I make over $25 every month just by taking surveys. And now Swagbucks is offering even better deals than ever before. They've recently launched Swag Codes, where you can earn reward codes for shopping online or getting things shipped to you. These codes can be redeemed for anything from Amazon gift cards to PayPal cash.

There are no catches or gimmicks - simply sign up, complete offers, collect points, redeem for prizes and enjoy! Here's how it works:

You choose what you're interested in from among the hundreds of different offers.

Each offer has specific terms and conditions. For example, some might require that you purchase something first, while others allow you to download the app and start earning points immediately. Some give you bonus points just for signing up. Others don't work unless you're already a customer.

Once you find an offer that works for you, you redeem your code by clicking "Redeem." This takes you to the merchant's page, where you enter the code and select a prize amount.

The key thing to remember is that many merchants will let you keep track of your earnings and your progress towards completing the offer. So once you hit the target number of points, you can go ahead and claim your prize!

2. OneOpinion

One of our favorite survey sites is OneOpinion.com. We've been able to earn over $30 while taking paid online surveys there. With over 4 million members worldwide, it's one of the most popular survey sites around, and it pays up to $20 per survey. You'll receive an email asking you to take a 5-minute survey on topics like products you use or what you think about certain brands. Surveys are short — just long enough to keep you interested.

Here's how it works: Once you complete a survey, you're entered into a drawing where you could win prizes ranging from gift cards to electronics to airline tickets. In fact, some companies offer thousands of dollars in giveaways each month. In addition to earning points for every survey you take, you can redeem those points for PayPal cash or gift cards to retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Starbucks, Target and Sephora. Another perk is you can avoid paying taxes on many of your earnings.

The best part is, you don't even need a credit card to sign up. Simply input your Social Security number and choose a username under which to log in. Then, you'll start receiving invitations to participate in different studies. Once you join a study, you provide a brief profile of yourself. And once you finish a survey, you earn reward points equal to the amount of money you contributed toward your participation.

3. LifePoints

LifePoints is one of those sites where you earn money just for taking surveys. You don't even need to make a purchase. Just sign up for free and start earning rewards. Signing up takes less than 10 minutes. Once you're signed up, you'll immediately begin receiving offers. As soon as you complete a survey, you'll be rewarded with LifePoints. These points are worth anywhere from $0.05 to $1.00 each. When you reach 500 LifePoints, you can redeem them for gift cards from popular retailers like Amazon, Walmart and Starbucks.

The best part about LifePoints is that it's completely free to use. There are no fees ever. In addition, there are no strings attached. You won't find yourself being asked to pay anything extra to access premium features. And since LifePoints is owned by Survey Junkie, you know that you'll always be paid fairly.

4. Survey Junkie

This site is a smaller survey aggregation site, but it stands out because of its ease of use and straightforward point system. You earn points by completing surveys. Once you hit 500 points, you can request payment via PayPal or Amazon gift card.

The site has a clean, clear dashboard where you can see exactly what you've earned and how many points you need to reach the payout threshold. There's no complicated signup process; just enter your email address and choose a username. Average earnings: $1.58 per hour

5. InboxDollars

InboxDollars is one of the most popular rewards programs around because it allows you to make money online without having to do anything except complete online surveys. You are paid for every survey you take, and there is no limit to how much you can earn.

The best part about InboxDollars is that you can join for free. There is never a fee to open up an account, and you can even use your existing social security number to apply. Once approved, you will receive a $5 credit to get you started.

You can request payments via PayPal or check. And remember, you must be 18 years old to signup for an account.

6. Opinion Outpost

Opinion Outpost isn't just another survey site; it's one of the best places to make extra cash online. Earnings are based on how long you spend taking surveys and whether you qualify for certain offers. You'll earn anywhere from 20 cents to $5 per survey and can redeem those earnings for gift cards from retailers including Walmart, Target, Starbucks, Sephora, and iTunes.

The site is split into three categories: "Surveys," "Offers" and "VIP." Surveys pay the most, but Offers and VIPs pay less. Here's what each category looks like:

Surveys

You're asked questions about everything from shopping habits to political views. For every question you answer correctly, you receive credit for future surveys. Every now and again, you might even qualify for a bonus survey.

Offers

This section includes special promotions where you can earn points for answering questions. These include sweepstakes entries and gift card giveaways.

VIP

Membership to this tier gets you to access to exclusive surveys. You'll also find a tab called "My Rewards," where you can view your progress toward earning rewards.

7. MyPoints

MyPoints is an online rewards program where you earn points for completing surveys. You can redeem those points for gift cards from retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target, Sephora, Starbucks, iTunes, and others. We found some good deals, but there are better options out there.

We tried five different offers from MyPoints over a three-month period. Our findings show that although MyPoints does offer some decent reward rates, it doesn’t provide enough surveys to make it worth signing up for.

The average earning for each completed survey was just $1.01 per survey. So even though MyPoints claims that you can cash out once you reach $10, we didn’t see many opportunities to do so.

8. Toluna Influencers

Toluna Influencers is a paid online survey site where you are able to choose the topic you want to answer questions about. Each question costs around $1-$2, and every survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Once you've completed a survey, you'll receive reward points, which you can redeem for cash via PayPal or gift cards.

While Toluna isn't one of the most popular survey sites out there, it does offer some unique features. First, unlike many other survey sites, Toluna allows you to select the topics you wish to participate in. This makes the process much less overwhelming because you don't have to worry about answering questions about everything under the sun. Second, Toluna offers a bonus feature called "Influencer Rewards." If you reach certain levels, you'll be rewarded with extra rewards. For example, once you reach level 10, you're eligible to win gift cards worth up to $50. Third, you won't find yourself waiting weeks to see your points credited; rather, you'll receive them immediately. Finally, you can keep track of how long you've been a member of Toluna, and what your total earnings have been over time.

9. i-Say

This site only provides surveys through one market research firm, Ipsos, the same company behind the well-known consumer panel provider Harris Poll. The site offers fewer surveys, but you stay on the site for each survey, making the overall experience easier. Sometimes it even displays surveys you've already tried, which is slightly annoying, but mostly just adds to the fun. Average earnings: $1.00 per hour

10. Vindale Research

Vindale Research offers a unique opportunity for people looking for extra cash. By signing up for a free account, members are able to participate in surveys about products such as electronics, toys, books, movies, video games, food, clothing, health care, home improvement, personal finance, and beauty/wellness. Members must be 18 years old or older to join. In addition to taking paid online surveys, members receive rewards points for referring friends, sharing opinions, completing daily tasks, and playing fun mini-games. Once enough points are accumulated, members can redeem those points for gift cards from popular merchants including Amazon, Starbucks, Walmart, Sephora, iTunes, Home Depot, Target, and others.

11. Pinecone Research

Pinecone Research offers paid survey opportunities that pay anywhere from $1-$10 per survey. Users are able to earn up to $50 per week. There are three ways to make money through Pinecone Research:

Refer friends: Get a bonus for every friend who completes a survey.

• Earn cash rewards: Complete surveys and watch videos to earn points that translate into real cash.

• Sign up for paid test accounts: Participate in paid test accounts where you can earn extra points and prizes.

Users must be 18 or older to participate. Some surveys require registration and others do not. A small percentage of surveys involve watching videos. Surveys are typically quick and easy to complete. However, some surveys can take longer to fill out depending on the topic.

12. CashKarma

CashKarma is a mobile application that allows you to access quick surveys and redeem money for cash. You earn points for completing online surveys, and even for doing simple tasks such as watching videos or playing games. There are also some extra opportunities and challenges, like referring friends or signing up for trials. The app offers a sort gamified version of a traditional survey platform, so you'll get more rewards the more you play around.

The average amount paid out per survey is about $50, with a $300 sign-up bonus. Some surveys pay out less than others, though, depending on how long it takes to fill out.

13. PrizeRebel

PrizeRebel is a free rewards site where you can easily sign up, complete a short form, and start earning money for answering questions and doing simple tasks. You don’t even have to enter your email address – it’s completely anonymous and you won’t receive spam emails. How to Keep Yourself Safe When Completing Online Surveys

There are legitimate paid survey sites out there where you can make money by taking surveys. Sites like Swagbucks offer opportunities to earn gift cards for shopping online. And some companies even let you cash in on rewards points for things like grocery store loyalty programs. If you're looking for something different, though, check out our list of legit survey sites. They won't cost you anything and you'll actually be getting something in return.

But there are also sites that want to collect your personal data or surveys that might not really be worth it. So how do you know what to trust? Here are a few tips to help you spot scam sites and avoid giving away your personal info.

1. Avoid sites that ask you to pay for access

You probably already know this one, but it bears repeating. Any site asking you to pay for access is likely a scam. Not paying for something gives you nothing in return, so why should you give them your personal information?

2. Look for a privacy policy

If a site doesn't clearly state whether it collects your personal information, don't use it. You never know what information someone else might be collecting about you.

3. Make sure the site isn't trying to sell you products
