Squarespace for bloggers ultimate guide

At the end of the article, there are some useful tips if you're planning on using Squarespace as an alternative to WordPress platforms, such as WPengine, HostGator, BlueHost and GoDaddy.

You will need your domain name registered with your chosen registrar before starting any migration on Squarespace because they do not provide any domain name registration services. Squarespace strongly recommends using their built-in transfer tool for the migration of your files if you're using a third party host as they might mess up with your database settings, which will result in breaking everything . However, there are some disadvantages to this process and it's not always possible (if you have hundreds or thousands of files) so it might be better to use an alternative method:

If by any means you choose not to use the built-in transfer tool to make your site live on Squarespace instead of your existing platform (or vice versa), and something goes wrong during the process. Remember, when you change hosts, all your content is lost - including categories and tags. Don't worry though, if you have a few minutes, you can re-create this content.

The advantages of Squarespace for bloggers and website owners who want to set up a professional-looking blog and/or online store in less than 5 minutes (without any coding or web design skills) are:

Squarespace Blogs offer unlimited bandwidth your site will never slow down because of traffic; it's designed to handle high amounts of traffic without bringing your business down; access to all the new features as soon as they're released; secure hosting environment on AWS with GeoDNS technology which automatically detects visitor location based on their IP address , then serves them cached data from closest available server location, resulting in faster loading times . Simple migration process by using Squarespace's built-in migration tool or via your existing FTP client if any changes need to be made; template design options (if you want) and hosting fees from $8 per month ; excellent support - Squarespace has one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings among web hosts; they have an excellent customer base, with more than 1 million users.

With all these advantages, it would be silly not to give Squarespace a try now wouldn't it ? Of course, there are some disadvantages too:

Squarespace is relatively expensive for low budget bloggers ($12-$18 /month); no search engine optimization tools such as Google Analytics , Site Meter etc .. Although they do provide basic traffic data through their built-in analytics, it's not as detailed as the data provided by other platforms; somewhat limited templates selection .

Squarespace is a great platform for blogging, so if you want to give it a shot here are some useful tips and tricks I've learned about Squarespace blogs over the past year or so.

How to improve your Squarespace Blog

1. General Settings:

In the Settings menu, select Advanced > Security . Under Access Control , enable Per-Domain Password Protection option and pick a strong password for your blog. This helps prevent random visitors (who don't know your website name) from accessing your blog by guessing the URL if you have access to it memorized or have it saved somewhere else. You can also disable XML-RPC feature here to protect against automated traffic, such as that generated by plugins like Jetpack Commentluv , Akismet and Disqus .    Here I suggest you create a backup of all changes, so click on Export Configuration File button at the bottom of this page to download settings file in this format:

Next, open the settings.php file with a text editor (e.g. Notepad) and upload the file from Step 2 on your new blog's Admin page on Squarespace to overwrite the existing settings data there , just to be sure you don't lose any of your preferences .

Place this code intosection of the website template (index.html) in order to enable custom fonts import option without losing SEO metadata :  src="https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Amatic+SC" .     Here, Amatic SC font is used as an example only . This modification can be made in any other CSS style sheet too - Just change the font name to match it .

Add this code into thesection of the website template (index.html) :

< meta name = "google-site-verification" content = "nYOq2DEk9pI1s7ZHJyUfKkyP9l8c6STvS0khdNAzru_58" />  Here,  nYOq2DEk9pI1s7ZHJyUfKkyP9l8c6STvS0khdNAzru_58 is the verification code for Google webmaster tools . To find your verification code simply sign into your Google Webmaster Tools account and click on your website's Dashboard .

It is very easy to write and publish a blog post on Squarespace. Click "Get Started" to sign up or log in. Navigate to the Home tab, where you'll find all your posts, e-mail subscribers, no new posts message if this property is empty or notifications for what's coming soon if this property is not empty. To create a new blog post, simply follow these three steps:

Click on the blue Blog Post button;

Give it a title using the box;

Type in your content using the text block below. When done typing, click Publish as draft (so other people can't see it) or Publish Now at the bottom right corner of the page.

If you want to alter the number of posts to display on the blog page (default is 3), click Settings > Reading from the left menu and adjust your settings.

If you want to add more information about yourself, your location or a sitemap,you can do so by clicking Settings in the upper right corner of the Squarespace home screen. Do you want to add a photo gallery ? Go to the Galleries tab and follow these steps:

Click on the Create Gallery button; Give it a title using the box; Upload photos by clicking Add Photos; Lastly, click Publish. If you want enable your Squarespace blog for comments (or disable), go to Settings > Discussion from left menu and click the appropriate button.

If you want to add an audio podcast (or disable), go to Settings > Audio Blog from left menu and click the appropriate button. Do you want to add comments ? Go to Settings > Discussion and click on the Disqus option (or disable).

If you don't know where something is, try identifying which tab it's in. For example, if you're looking for your dashboard , a good place to start is on the home tab.

If you're looking for anything else and can't find it on the Squarespace home tab, try using your browser's search function ( CTRL + F ) as everything is not always in plain view.

To see what a particular feature looks like, click on its name in this article or go to your blog post and hover over it (if the feature is not visible for you).
